The iron lung – also called a negative pressure ventilator, is today nearly obsolete. But back in the 1930s, they were used to treat the acute, early stages of the polio virus. Today, we may catch a glimpse of an iron lung in a museum, as we now possess very different medical technology. But there are still people who use the iron lung to this very day.
